Everybody…

At the risk of completely and utterly humiliating myself, I am going to publicly admit that I went to the Backstreet Boys concert last night. AND ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Bwhahahaha!!

I was such a closet fan before, but now there is no way to disguise my love for them after finally seeing them live. I thought they’d only sing songs from Never Gone but they went through each of their earlier albums and sang ALL the hits from them, it was if it was a best of tour.

I nearly wet myself when they ran off the stage and re-appeared wearing jackets and hats and started singing I Want it That Way, and then they also sang As Long as You Love Me and the whole crowd lost it.

They played for two hours and the crowd screamed, sang, danced and waved their phones around the whole time. It’s hard to believe that they’ve been together for 13 years; I’ve grown up listening to them. And while they’re all older now and chubbier, they still rock my world, especially Kevin and Brian. Phowar!

I’m such a teeny bopper.

Hee.

Getaway

Mark and I went down to Melbourne for a week for this year's Australian Open. We've gone for the last 2 years but this year we managed to get decent seats in Rod Laver Arena. We saw lots of tennis, did some shopping, ate lots of yummy food and went to Philip Island to play tourist.

We saw some great matches, the marathon men's quarter final with Kiefer and Grosjean, as well as two women's quarter finals – Hingis vs. Clijsters and Mauresmo vs. Schnyder. The later match being whopping, but against man-woman Mauresmo she didn’t stand a chance. This day was stinking hot, around 35 degrees celsius and despite our seats being awesome and 4 rows from the baseline on the side, we sat in the sun. The whole day. The WHOLE day. No amount of sunscreen could help prevent you getting burnt. I now have one severely burnt shoulder and a handprint on my other shoulder thanks to Mark who didn't rub in the sunscreen properly!

The next day was the women's semi finals, our seats were basically the same but on the opposite side of the court. This day was around 40 degrees Celsius and we had to skip the men's double match in the morning because our seats were still in the bloody sun and we couldn’t sit through that again. Luckily for the semi’s they closed the roof and so we sat in comfort as we watched the awesome Sharapova and Henin-Hardine semi. And yes, Sharapova is absolutely stunning but man, her screaming is so fricking loud, no wonder her opponents get the shits with her. The Clisjters vs. Mauresmo match was also fantastic, and it was shaping up to be a great final set til Clijsters fell over, it was a shame really, it looked like she could have beaten the man-woman.

The other days were spent shopping and eating. We visited the Alannah Hill outlet in Brunswick street and it was great – so much better than the one in Sydney with prices slashed severely from the RRP. I bought a skirt for $69 that was eyeing in the store but it was originally $389! It’s so much better than the Alannah outlet in Sydney, there are actually still small sizes left and all in perfect condition. I wish I had bought more.

We also went down to Philip Island for a day. We went on a cruise to the seal colony, they stunk like a toilet which hadn’t been cleaned for a long time but it was so cool seeing them, I haven’t seen a seal before in real life and being face to face with around 4000 was awesome!

It started to rain but we still went to the koala park and saw some cute koala’s, well one cute koala which was actually awake and climbing trees. It nearly impaled itself on a tree branch but it survived and then kept on climbing and eating. They’re just sooooooo cute. I wanted to steal one and take it home.

And then lastly we went to see the famous Penguin parade. We sat on the beach to watch the sunset and wait for the little penguins to surf in on the waves. They didn’t come til around 9:15pm but it was worth the wait seeing them hit the sand. They’re not the world’s brightest creatures as we watched them kept getting knocked over by the waves, but they eventually got their act together and in groups waddled up the beach and into the scrub to their burrows. As we walked along the boardwalk we could see them all walking around, cleaning themselves and chirping. It was amazing being so close to them and seeing them go about their normal activities. I’m surprised they’re so calm around humans.

It was a relaxing time away, and as we were heading home we ran into Jennifer Hawkins at the airport. To kill time we went into a few of the airport stores, and while we were in the lingerie store we saw her buying a pink g-string. She is so HOT, like hot to the max. Man, I’d so do her and I’m not even a lesbian.

Phowar

I just watched the first half of Supernatual and HOT DAMN! I can't wait for this show to start so I can perv on the cute boys.

Jared Padalecki + Jensen Ackles = YUM

Hopefully there will be lots of shirtless scenes.

Oh dear

While I trying to decide what to wear to work this morning I realised that I have a problem.

I knew I had a slight addiction but it hasn't hit home til now while looking through my wardrobe and draws.

I have far too many pink clothes.

Dark pink, light pink, dusty pink, baby pink, rose…every colour of the pink spectrum is represented in my wardrobe in tops, camis, jumpers, cardis, skirts, bras, undies, socks, shoes...

I don't know when it happened but I've somehow eradicated almost every other colour out of my wardrobe, I used to HATE wearing pink. I always deemed it too girly and avoided buying pink things.

Now I always find myself asking sales assistants "does it come in pink?" and get bitterly disappointed when it doesn't.

This must stop.

Right after I pick up that new pink cardi I saw the other day in Alannah Hill

Just an observation: Why is it that I keep noticing that as people get older, they become more cynical towards themselves and the world around them. That something seems to close from their inside. I look at kids whose feelings and emotions and tenderness are all pure.

Nothing hidden. No hidden agenda with their emotions and feelings.

Sheer joy, sheer love, sheer frustration, sheer excitement, sheer amazement, sheer honesty, sheer tenderness and the like. Mostly everything is evident in an honest and open and raw manner.

I guess once we people "grow up" and we feel and hurt, we forget or lose the goodness of what we used to know. As we grow older, it seems that we lose that part of ourselves where we maintain the positive attitude towards ourselves, people around us and the world itself. We no longer view the world with a sense of freeness and adventure and freshness. We view it as if someone's out to get us.

I think kids could teach us adults a lot about that still pureness and magical thing about goodness in other people. I know, I know. Some of you might say the reason is because we have been through something or we simply "grew up" and started becoming more aware about. Or whatever. I know that. But we should always try again. To really be on the "release" side of life. To take the good stuff and filter out the bad. I, now, think it is a plus to have that kid-like, no holds barred, honesty dealing with our emotions and feelings and our tenderness towards people. Just the real stuff.

I watched Memoirs of a Geisha on New Years Day, and it was better than I thought it would be. My main gripe was the casting, just another example of Hollywood screwing up a potentially good movie with crappy casting – if you're going to make a movie about old school Japan and want to make it believable then you should perhaps cast some FRICKING JAPANESE ACTORS. Not the token Asian actor from movies that you hope people will recognise or Hong Kong darlings – I don’t care how hot they are. It would really piss me off if this cast was cast with the thought of "Hey, let's just cast any famous Asian actors we know, because no one will be able to tell the difference, all Asians are the same!"

I started watching Bleach, an anime about a boy who fights evil spirits on behalf of a place called Soul Society and has a band of loyal friends to help him, including a talking stuffed lion…ok, that sounds a bit dicky now that I think about it, but seriously, it's pretty good and worth checking out.

Back to it

So, a new year begins and after a short break I'm back at work struggling to stay awake and stay focused. I have so much on my to-do list but nothing is crossed off yet and it's already past midday.

This is not a good sign.

Last year was a bit of an exciting year for me (well if you consider getting your phone stolen and house robbed exciting), a mishmash of experiences – some incredibly perfect and some utterly horrendous...I hope this year is has more happier moments in store for me because I don't want to feel violated and lose any more faith in people than I already did last year.
