The Big AppleT-minus 48 hours til we fly out to New York City.
How exciting.
I still haven't packed; instead I have been busy researching things I want to buy. I hope to do the Shopaholic sisterhood proud by spending up a storm in Sephora, Macy’s, Bloomingdales et al. I just have to remember to convert the USD to AUD, otherwise I may end up very, very poor.
I am not looking forward to the flight at all. Everyone knows I have a
fear of flying, so it'll be interesting to see how I hold up on the 20 or so hour flight. Maybe I should take my friend's advice and get some sleeping tablets, but then I'll miss out on all the inflight movies :(
V for Vendetta
Remember, Remember the 5th of November...
I haven't felt this way after a movie for a very long time; V for Vendetta portrays a dystopic world not far from what Orwell penned in "1984" and contains themes that are very much evident in the political environment the world is currently in, or could potentially move into.
The fascist ideals that simmered throughout the ages in political culture have resurfaced and come to fruition. The public is controlled through police repression, surveillance and propaganda. Free thought is disloyalty, Homosexuality or owning a Koran are crimes punishable by death.
Whilst the ending of the story is a let down and seems to disturbingly glorify the notion that terrorism is acceptable as long as no one gets hurt, the rest of the movie is quite thought provoking and one that is bound to cause controversy.
